The Haggard Law Firm’s Todd Michaels, Shelby Walton, and James Blecke earned a $1.32 Million verdict in the negligent security/personal injury case involving Wiley Lowe.
On January 31, 2016, Lowe was a guest at the Elysium Hotel in Ft Lauderdale. Elysium was part of a larger group of hotels known as North Beach Hotels. The hotels were comprised of 15 separate hotels over a 1.5-mile square area.
In the nighttime hours, none of the hotels were staffed, and there were two employees whose job it was to run back and forth through 15 different hotels taking care of every need of every guest which included approximately 500 rooms. Neither of the employees had a security background or training. When the two employees were not otherwise occupied, they were supposed to walk the 15 properties for security purposes.
Lowe was in South Florida to work. He was set to shoot a show on one of the home shopping networks where he sold watches. He got in late on the night of January 31st and checked into his hotel. His TV program job was the next day. While he was in his hotel room, he heard a noise coming from the courtyard and went out to see what it was.
He was attacked by a male holding a sprinkler brick who broke Lowe’s pinkie. His pinkie did not heal properly causing permanent deformity, pain, and limitation.
