CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The Haggard Law Firm has launched Case & Cause, Hosted by Michael Haggard, a new podcast examining the intersection of trial law, civil justice, public safety, and advocacy.
Hosted by Haggard Law Firm Managing Partner Michael Haggard, Case & Cause brings together trial lawyers, victim advocates, nonprofit leaders, and other changemakers to discuss how passionate advocacy and litigation can create meaningful change in our communities.
The podcast is primarily designed for trial lawyers, personal injury attorneys, plaintiff attorneys, and other legal professionals, while also providing insight for anyone interested in civil justice, public safety, and advocacy.
What Is the Case & Cause Podcast?
Case & Cause Hosted by Michael Haggard explores societal issues through the perspective of people who have dedicated their careers and lives to pursuing justice and making communities safer.
While many conversations begin with a legal case, the podcast goes beyond litigation. Episodes examine the broader issues behind cases and the ways trial lawyers and advocates can use their experience, influence, and voices to address problems that affect communities.
“Case & Cause is about the people who are willing to fight for change wherever that fight takes them—whether that’s in a courtroom, in a community, in the halls of government, or simply by sharing their story,” says Haggard.
Exploring the Issues Behind the Cases
Episodes of Case & Cause will explore a range of legal and societal issues, including:
- Personal injury and wrongful death litigation
- Trial advocacy and courtroom strategy
- Gun violence litigation and gun violence prevention
- Negligent security and premises liability
- Drowning prevention and water safety
- Product liability and consumer safety
- Victim advocacy
- Public safety and prevention
- Civil justice and corporate accountability
- Legal leadership and professional responsibility
- Community advocacy and social change
The podcast also explores an important question facing modern trial lawyers: How can attorneys use their work beyond an individual case to help prevent future harm and make communities safer?
Trial Lawyers and Advocates Working Toward Change
The conversations on Case & Cause frequently bring together two perspectives: the trial lawyer who seeks accountability through the civil justice system and the advocate working to address the underlying societal issue.
That combination is central to the podcast’s mission. Trial lawyers often see firsthand the consequences of dangerous products, unsafe premises, inadequate security, preventable drownings, gun violence, and other forms of preventable harm.
Advocates, meanwhile, work to transform those experiences into awareness, prevention, policy changes, and community action.
Case & Cause examines how those efforts can intersect—and how lessons learned through litigation can contribute to broader conversations about public safety and prevention.
First Episode Focuses on Gun Violence Litigation and Advocacy
The premiere episode of Case & Cause focuses on litigating gun violence cases and advocating for gun violence prevention.
Michael Haggard is joined by Haggard Law Firm attorney Todd Michaels and client Happy Perry, whose son, D’Sean Perry, was one of three University of Virginia students killed in the 2022 UVA mass shooting.
The discussion examines the role of trial lawyers in pursuing civil accountability following gun violence and the importance of advocacy outside the courtroom.
Perry also discusses her journey from experiencing the loss of her son to becoming an advocate for gun violence prevention and safer communities.
The episode illustrates one of the central themes of Case & Cause: a legal case can be part of a larger cause, and advocacy does not have to end when litigation ends.
